Acts 9:3-6 – Now as he was traveling, it happened that he was approaching Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him; and he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” And He said, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, but get up and enter the city, and it will be told to you what you must do.”

I was praying about the beginning of 2023 recently and I began to be filled with an expectancy of unprecedented things taking place. If you have any understanding of prayer you would have to agree, that expectancy is a guarantee that something amazing is about to happen. More specifically, I felt the Lord saying that the least likely in our lives were about to have sudden and shocking conversions this coming year. As I pondered this word from the Lord I began to think about the most unlikely candidates the Lord has used in the past. I thought about the reluctant fisherman from Galilee who became known as the Fisher of Men. Then I remembered Mary Magdalene, she was the prototype of people coming out of a life of death and addictive behavior into the resurrection light and life of God. There was also Lydia in Philippi who saw her business gift as a tool to advance God’s kingdom though the ministry of Paul. And of course that brings us to the least likely of all, the chief of sinners who became the apostle to the Gentiles. No one would have thought in a million lifetimes that the angry Pharisee would give his life to Christ but he did. His conversion was totally unexpected but became God’s tool to bring the Christian faith to the nations.
That brings us back to 2023. These are historic times with historic challenges. The Lord will rise to these challenges in unexpected and unprecedented ways. I believe there are overlooked people and family and friends you may have given up on over the years. This just may be their time. I believe when we look back a year from now we will be shocked by what the Lord has done. The least likely will not only be converted but literally thrust into the game. Maybe its time to pray for lost family members again, we have entered a brand new day.

  1. There were those who were looking, anticipating the Messiah’s coming. Not many and most with much different ideas as to how He would deliver them. Here we are in 2023, have we learned enough to know how to stand in the evil day? Will we be vigilant or foolish? We must work while it is still day, for the night is coming. Seek first….. Matt 6:33 for those who call Him Lord, is our simple instruction.
