Heb.12:2 – ….looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.
1994 changed everything for me. Of course I was already a Christian; after all I had pastored a Pentecostal church for 16 years at that point but this new touch on my life was different than anything I had ever known. Looking back now I know what it is; I had experienced a deeper degree of God’s glory than I even knew was available for us. Glory is the unveiling of God’s goodness, it is the very essence of Who God is that becomes real to us. Being brought into the glory of God is what we all were born for, this kind of encounter is life changing. I am reading a book called “We’ve Never Been This Way Before” by R.T. Kendall. Here is a quote from that book on the effect of God’s glory.
“1. It makes you feel unworthy to be a Christian.
You are conscious of the goodness of God, knowing that it is sheer grace that is responsible for your conversion. Yes, you made a choice. Yes, you repented. Yes, you put your trust in Jesus’ blood. But how did you do this?
The great Charles Spurgeon found himself in a Methodist church one day and began to ask himself this question: “How did you come to be a Christian?” He thought about it for a moment when suddenly he said, “I saw that God was at the bottom of it all.”
- It will keep you from a feeling of entitlement.
When Moses asked to see God’s glory, he was given specific lessons about God’s ways. God said to him, “I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy”. This lets you know that if God is gracious to you, you ought to be very, very thankful. It is because Jesus has chosen you. ”
- The revelation of God’s glory convinces you how real God is.
There is nothing so rewarding as the immediate and direct presence of God. ”
The Lord is pouring out His Spirit in various ways and in various places in this generation. Being engulfed by His glory is like nothing else in this life. You were born with an infinite desire for joy in your heart because you were created in God’s image with eternity in your heart. Find a place where His glory is being poured out and camp out there; this is where you will begin to discovery the profound effect of glory on your life.
