Rev.22:1 – And he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb,
This verse is the last of John’s visions found in the book of the revelation of Jesus Christ. John is shown the river of Living Water flowing out from the Father and the Son of God bringing life and healing to the nations. This is the solution to all the evil being practiced on the earth today. Rivers have always had a powerful place in scripture. There was a river in the garden of Eden, Moses was hidden in a river, Ezekiel was caught up in the Spirit and prophesied from a river, David sang about a river, and Jesus was baptized in a river to begin His ministry. I. Williams points out the role of water in many of God’s workings on the earth. Check this out.
“The record of John the Baptist, the miracle at Cana of Galilee, the communication with Nicodemus, the conversation with the woman of Samaria, the miracle at the pool of Bethesda, the discourse on the pouring of the water at the feast of Tabernacles, the washing of the disciples’ feet, the testimony to the water and the blood at the crucifixion, the manifestation of Christ after the Resurrection by the lake of Gennesareth, all connect water with the highest Divine blessings.”
John the Baptist called the nation of Israel to repentance and actually baptized Jesus in the Jordan river. Jesus first miracle was turning water into wine, a picture of the joy and intoxication found in the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus spoke of being born of the water and the Spirit to Nicodemus. Jesus was speaking of the role of the Spirit bringing God’s word to life in our lives. It is the Spirit that applies the water of God’s word to our hearts. The pool of Bethesda speaks to us of the healing power of the river of God, everywhere the river goes there is healing and there is life. At the feast of Tabernacles Jesus prophesied about the baptism in the Holy Spirit as the water was poured out in the temple of God. Jesus washed the disciples’ feet with water picturing the way He washes us now with the water of His presence. Then there was the water and the blood that flowed from the wounded side of Jesus, we are totally cleansed by the water and blood that flows from His side. Christ also revealed Himself at the Sea of Galilee (Gennesareth) in His Resurrected body. There is a river that is flowing today; who can receive it? Jesus said, “Let anyone who is thirsty come and drink”.
