Matt.28:19,20 – Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Evangelism was also a major part of our culture. We had a printing press on campus where our original tracts were published. Having a pocket full of gospel tracts was just the way we lived, telling someone Jesus loves you and has a plan for your life was part of our daily routine. This of course led to discipleship. Everything we learned came out of the relationships that were formed in the Jesus community we were part of. Our community was made up of about seventy individuals who lived on the property and were all “sold out” to the calling of God. In this cloistered lifestyle discipleship was inevitable. We were being transformed as we lived together in Christian community.
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ was also talked about a lot in the Jesus movement. Actually one of the things that awakened my heart to the Lord was a newspaper called “The Jungle Express” that was published at our ministry, God’s Army. I came across a copy of that newspaper in an unusual way. I was looking for a Bible study that I had heard about in Metairie in the swirl of events that led to my conversion in August of 1973. No one was at home at the apartment where the Bible study was supposed to be conducted. When I knocked on the door no one answered but I noticed a newspaper sitting in the flower bed by the steps, it was a copy of the Jungle Express. That particular issue of the newspaper was filled with articles about the return of Christ. I was terrified, Jesus was coming back and I wasn’t ready. The Jesus People believed His return was imminent and we had to live in a state of readiness. Here is what Jesus Himself said about that in Matt.24:44 – “For this reason you must be ready as well; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.”
So these lessons have shaped me and kept me for the last fifty years. It seems as if the smell of the Jesus Revolution is in the air again. I have often prayed for another Jesus movement. Recently it seems as if the Lord is answering my prayers. From the “Let us Worship” movement with Sean Feucht in 2020 to the recent outbreak at Asbury University the smell of a Jesus movement is in the air, I think the Lord is on the move in this generation.
