CRUCIFIXION

Each year as we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus our Lord we all take time to reflect on the great impact the cross has had on each one of us. In the Roman world at the time of Christ’s crucifixion the cross was a reminder to the Jew that they were in slavery and the horrible ramifications of violating the Roman law. For Christians today the cross has taken on a far deeper and more spiritual significance. Christ hung and died on a Roman cross because of His love for each of us. His death on the cross has broken the rein of bondage that we all suffered under. He liberated us from the shackles of sin that kept us enslaved to the kingdom of darkness. His death has freed us and brought us into the very life of God. Here are some of the results of His death on the cross. Read these familiar passages from God’s word. Allow the power of the effect of the cross of Christ deepen in your life.

HE BORE MY SIN

1Peter 2:24 – and He Himself brought our sins in His body up on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by His wounds you were healed.

II. HE BORE MY SICKNESS

Matt.8:17 – This happened so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR ILLNESSES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”

III. HE BORE MY EMOTIONAL PAIN

Heb.9:14 – how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

IV. HE BORE MY CURSE

Gal.3:13,14 – Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us–for it is written: “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE”– in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

V. HE OPENED HEAVEN FOR ME

Heb.10:19-20 – Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, through His flesh,
VI. HE REPRESENTS ME

Rom.9:34 – Christ Jesus is He who died, but rather, was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.

VII. HE FORGIVES ME

! John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
