YOUR WILL BE DONE

Matt.6:10 – Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.

This verse brings us to the very heart of redemption, my will and the will of God. To the unsaved or to the person with the unrenewed mind the will of God is the last thing on earth one would be interested in. To me, the transformation of the will is the sure evidence of conversion. After all it was our will that came into bondage in the beginning when our first parents (Adam and Eve) ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Our hearts were enslaved because of the fall, we sinned because we were sinners. We wanted to do evil things because our hearts were enslaved. That was the true evidence in my life that I had been saved, I wanted to do different things. In other words my will changed. I lost my desire for the foolish pleasures of sin and began to want to read my Bible and be in a place of worship. I could begin to say, “I delight to do your will oh, Lord”. Here is how Andrew Murray describes praying for God’s will to be done.

“Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. This petition is too frequently applied alone to the suffering of the will of God. In heaven, God’s will is done, and the Master teaches the child to ask that the will may be done on earth just as in heaven – in the spirit of adoring submission and ready obedience. Because the will of God is the glory of heaven, the doing of it is the blessedness of heaven. As the will is done, the kingdom of heaven comes into the heart. And wherever faith has accepted the Father’s love, obedience accepts the Father’s will. The surrender to, and the prayer for a life of heaven-like obedience, is the spirit of childlike prayer.”

It was impossible to pray for God’s will to be done on earth when I was stuck in the sins of the earth. It was being set free in my heart that changed all of that. This is what Jesus meant when He said, “if you abide in me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you will and it will be done for you”. Do you see that? Your heart changed and you begin to will the things the Lord wills, that is when your prayers carry great power. Let your will be done Father, on earth as it is in heaven.
