Lk.5:23,24 – Which is easier, to say: ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,” He said to the man who was paralyzed, “I say to you, get up, and pick up your stretcher, and go home.”
Can you remember when you first believed in Jesus. I sure remember that day, actually it was 50 years ago today as I write this blog. Jesus came into my life and my life was changed. I walked right out of my sinful life into this new one, my sins were forgiven and my life could never be the same. This paralyzed man was getting forgiveness of sins but also his paralyzed body was being healed. Jesus told him to pick up his stretcher and go home. He didn’t just lay there, he got up by faith in God’s word. There is something here for all of us, we also have to pick up our stretcher and walk. Here is how Adam Clarke describes these actions.
“Being enabled to obey this command was the public proof that the man was made whole. Such a circumstance should not pass without improvement. A man gives proof of his conversion from sin to God who imitates this paralytic person. He who does not rise and stand upright, but either continues groveling on the earth, or falls back as soon as he is got up, is not yet cured of his spiritual palsy. When we see a penitent enabled to rejoice in hope of God’s glory, and to walk in the way of his commandments, he affords us all the proof which we can reasonably require, that his conversion is real: the proof sufficient to satisfy himself is the witness of the Holy Spirit in his own heart; but this is a matter of which those who are without cannot judge: they must form their opinion from his conduct, and judge of the tree by its fruits.”
So receiving a miracle like this healing is just like receiving salvation. We believe God and act out our faith. It may be in any arena of your life. Think about what was going on in this house when the miracle happened. Luke said the anointing for healing was present, Jesus said his sins were forgiven, and then He said get up and walk. Maybe that’s what is happening for you right now, His presence is here, you are reading His word, maybe its time to get up and act out your faith.
