Isa.10:27 – TPT – In that day the Lord will remove the heavy burden from your shoulders and break off the yoke of bondage from your necks because of the heavy anointing upon you!
This passage gives us a glimpse into how Jesus and His apostles were able to bring deliverance to those who were oppressed by the enemy. The anointing oil is obviously connected to the anointing that rested on Jesus and now rests upon us. It is this power, the power of the Holy Spirit that breaks the power of the devil. In the Old Testament it was prophets, priests, and kings that were anointed with the Holy Spirit, they were able to lead God’s people because of the power of the anointing on them. Here is what the Spirit Filled Life Bible says about this passage and the anointing.
“Prophets, priests, and kings were initiated into office by the anointing with oil, symbolic of the inner working of the Holy Spirit. Since God’s blessing comes upon His people when the kings, priests, and prophets are faithful in their functions, Isaiah prophesies of that day when woes would end, revival would come, and these offices would properly function again.”
Today we are experiencing the outpouring of the anointing prophesied by Joel and by Peter, the Lord is pouring out His Spirit on everyone who calls upon His Name. Here is how Brian Simmons describes today’s verse.
“Or “because of oil (anointing).” Oil is a frequent symbol of the anointing of God. Although the meaning of the Hebrew text of this clause is uncertain, some scholars see the imagery of an ox who grew so fat that it shattered the yoke over his neck. Assyria’s yoke of bondage will be broken off Judah because they will grow fat, heavy with the anointing of God’s restored favor.”
We are that ox that Isaiah was talking about. Even though in times past we may have labored like an ox under the bondage of a yoke. Today that oppressive yoke is broken from our neck and replaced with the gentle yoke of Jesus. He said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” The yoke that Jesus gives to us is the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The yoke of bondage is broken and the liberating power of the Spirit has been placed on our necks.
