Rev.5:6,7 – And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.
Heaven is said to be an eternal unveiling of the glory of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. John was overwhelmed by this magnificent revelation when he was suddenly caught up into heaven. Being touched by the Lord in this life as we ‘see through a glass darkly’ is devastating enough, when we see Him in glory it can only be described as unspeakable. We will see things that are beyond our ability to even imagine, that is where we are headed in the days ahead. The apex of human history is being seen as the Father hands the scroll concerning His plan for earth into the hands of Jesus. At that moment there is an unveiling of the Trinity that results in a worship celebration among all of the creatures in heaven that actually spills over to effect the creatures on earth. Here is a description of the Trinity from Jonathan Edwards.
“And this I suppose to be that blessed Trinity that we read of in the holy Scriptures. The Father is the Deity subsisting in the prime, unoriginated and most absolute manner, or the Deity in its direct existence. The Son is the Deity generated by God’s understanding, or having an idea of himself, and subsisting in that idea. The Holy Ghost is the Deity subsisting in act, or the divine essence flowing out and breathed forth, in God’s infinite love to and delight in himself. And I believe the whole divine essence does truly and distinctly subsist both in the divine idea and divine love, and that therefore each of them are properly distinct persons.”
This is the short version of Edwards’ description of the Trinity. Jesus is the Father’s word or idea of Himself. The Holy Spirit is the love of the Father and the Son that is actually a person called the Holy Spirit. At that moment in heaven the blessedness of what was beginning to unfold resulted in triumphant celebration and worshipping in awe. One glimpse of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and we too are undone.
