Matt.24:4-8 – And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
The words of Jesus in this passage are a foretaste of the book of Revelation and the coming Great Tribulation. This seven year period at the end of this age is also called the “Time of Jacob’s Trouble”. According to Jesus and the book of Revelation it will be a time of global trouble and sorrow that is unparalleled in human history. One of the things Jesus said would characterize this season would be epidemics called pestilences and plagues in the Bible. We all got a little taste of this epidemic nightmare with Covid several years ago. It effected the entire world with an estimated 3 million deaths worldwide wide. This will seem insignificant during the last seven years when billions rather than millions will die in vast global and regional plagues. Here is how Amir Tsarfati describes this.
“Since the beginning of 2020, the people of this planet have gone COVID-crazy. You listen to the words of some people and watch their actions, and it is easy to think that the virus attacks the brain as much as it strikes the body. And all this is for one virus! Can you imagine what this world is going to look like when the Lamb begins opening the seals of the scroll and the plagues and pestilences begin multiplying? Picture your country with six or seven viruses more deadly than COVID, then add to that food shortages, economic collapse, and natural disasters on a scale never before seen since the flood.”
The opening of the first seal on the scroll in Revelation will mark the beginning of a season of judgement on the earth because of its rejection of the Son of God and His offer of salvation from the consequences of sin. There is good news for us today, the time of the end hasn’t begun quite yet and there is still time to call upon the name of the Lord. Today is the day of salvation, don’t put Him off another day because the end of all things as we know it is drawing near.
