DIVINE AND SUPERNATURAL LIGHT

Matt.16:16,17 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Spiritual revelation is like nothing else. Man has a great capacity even in his natural abilities to study and to advance himself academically. We cram our brains with information which can be quite beneficial and rewarding in our day to day activities. Yet there is another kind of knowledge, spiritual knowledge that goes beyond the brain and our intellectual ability to retain knowledge. I am speaking about spiritual knowledge or the knowledge of the heart. It is only by revelation that we can comprehend the things of God. He opens our understanding according to His purposes and will that we can know Him in a real and personal way. Here is how Jonathan Edwards explained this in his famous message A DIVINE AND SUPERNATURAL LIGHT.

“This is the most excellent and divine wisdom, that any creature is capable of. ’Tis more excellent than any human learning; ’tis far more excellent, than all the knowledge of the greatest philosophers, or statesmen. Yea, the least glimpse of the glory of God in the face of Christ doth more exalt and ennoble the soul, than all the knowledge of those that have the greatest speculative understanding in divinity, without grace. This knowledge has the most noble object that is, or can be, viz. the divine glory, and excellency of God, and Christ.…This knowledge is that which is above all others sweet and joyful. Men have a great deal of pleasure in human knowledge, in studies of natural things; but this is nothing to that joy which arises from this divine light shining into the soul. This light gives a view of those things that are immensely the most exquisitely beautiful, and capable of delighting the eye of the understanding. This spiritual light is the dawning of the light of glory in the heart.”

This is the apex of our human experience to know and be known by God is higher than every other kind of knowledge or experience. This is what Peter experienced when he realized that Jesus was the Messiah. This is where life begins seeing Jesus for ourselves is the beginning of all revelation.
