WORSHIPPING IN GOD’S NEW DAY

Ps.96:1,2 – Sing to the LORD a new song;

Sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Sing to the LORD, bless His name;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

I can almost hear the angels near Bethlehem singing at the birth of Christ, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”. Why were the angels singing that day? They had an announcement of joy, God had become a man, salvation had come to the earth, The Savior of the world was finally here. These angels were doing the same thing that David was doing in this Psalm, “Sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Lord all the earth”. A new day had dawned not just for Israel but for the whole earth. Christ came to save sinners, He is here among us, we are living in God’s new day. Let’s sing His song in our world; we will sing His new song at church, we will sing His new song in our homes, in the hospitals, at funerals, in the schools, and in our day to day lives. We have no choice but to sing, we are living in God’s new day. Here is how Augustine describes this passage.

“Rightly, then, are we stirred by the voice of the psalmist as by the sound of a heavenly trumpet, when we hear [this]. Let us recognize, then, and proclaim the [Christ] who became incarnate. . . . [He] is the Son born of the Father, the eternal Day, God of God, Light of Light; he is our salvation, of whom the psalmist says elsewhere, “May God have mercy on us and bless us: may he cause the light of his countenance to shine on us. That we may know your way on earth; your salvation in all nations”

My ministry is the overflow of this song in my life. I have tasted the new day of the Lord where there is no darkness, I sing this song of joy as a prophetic announcement of His coming kingdom. I sing this song because His kingdom is here now and everyone who hears this song will join in with me and sing this song of joy. So why sit around and listen to me sing my song? You sing your new song to the Lord and watch the day of the Lord break out all around you.
