Ps.22:16 – For dogs have surrounded me;
A band of evildoers has encompassed me;
They pierced my hands and my feet.
He shewed them his hands and his feet.—Luke 24:40
Jn.20:27 – Then He *said to Thomas, “Place your finger here, and see My hands; and take your hand and put it into My side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.”
This will be the moment of all moments for each son and daughter of God. The instant we see Him with our own eyes and see His hands and His feet will be the moment all of us have longed for all of our days. For some people they may be waiting for that new car, expensive watch, or trophy of accomplishment but for all who have tasted the love of Jesus its those wounds that we treasure the most. This is personal, He suffered and died for me. That night when Thomas was struggling with doubt and said unless I see Him for myself and put my finger in the nail-prints I won’t believe. When Jesus stood in front of Thomas with hands stretched out saying , “Put your finger in my wounds”, somehow He was talking to you and to me. Today, we not only put our finger in the wounds, we are hidden away in the clefts of the Rock, hidden in the wounds of Jesus. Here is what Henry said about this.
“He is crucified. The method of his death itself is described, although it was never used among the Jews: They pierced my hands and my feet, which were nailed to the cursed tree, from which the whole body was left to hang. The effect of this must have been the most intense pain and torture. There is no one passage in the whole Old Testament that some Jews have worked so hard to corrupt as this, because it is such an important prediction of the death of Christ and was so exactly fulfilled.”
Jesus pointed to the prophecies about His suffering and dying to His disciples, next He pointed to His wounds. Today these are the things that our faith grasps, we embrace theses prophecies, “They pierced my hands and my feet”, and we explore His wounds.
He was pierced for my transgressions and by His wounds I am healed.
