Heb.1:8,9 – But to the Son He says:
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”
This is one of the great mysteries that lies at the heart of the heavenly ministry of Jesus and the supernatural power that is pouring into His church. When Jesus became a man, born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem, His humanity became a permanent thing. Jesus entered the human race not just for thirty three years but for all time. When He ministered here on earth it was the result of the anointing He received upon His life when He was baptized by John the Baptist. For three years Jesus healed all who were oppressed by the devil by the anointing that rested on His life. When He died and was raised from the dead, and took His place at the Father’s right hand in heaven, His ministry changed. He began His heavenly ministry which continues to this day. When He took His place on the throne as a man, the Father anointed Him with the oil of gladness, the powerful Holy Spirit. This anointing was for the heavenly ministry of Jesus. Here is how Andrew Murray describes this.
“Therefore God, Thy God, hath anointed Thee with the oil of joy above Thy fellows. He is an anointed King. Therefore, because He loved righteousness and hated iniquity, therefore God anointed Him. When He ascended to heaven, and sat down on the right hand of the throne, He received from the Father anew and in fullest measure, as the Son of Man, the gift of the Holy Ghost to bestow on His people. That Spirit was to Him the oil of joy, the joy that had been set before him, the joy of His crowning day when He saw of the travail of His soul. An anointing above His fellows, for there was none like Him; God gave Him the Spirit without measure. And yet for His fellows, His redeemed, whom, as Head, He had made members of His body. They become partakers of His anointing and His joy.”
So this is where the present day ministry of Jesus began, it began with a fresh anointing for His heavenly ministry. Now what is this heavenly ministry of Jesus? He is called by Paul the Minister of the Sanctuary, He is the One Who brings us into the very holy presence of God by His own blood. He is also called our Intercessor, He lives and breathes prayers to the Father for me. If Jesus is praying for me I have nothing to fear. John called Him the Advocate, if I sin I confess my sins to Him and He represents me before the Father. My sin is forgiven because of His precious blood. Last but certainly not least Jesus is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. Anyone who comes to Him will be filled with the mighty baptism in the Holy Spirit. This is essential, the church desperately needs the power of God.
