YOU MAN OF GOD

1 Tim.6:11 – But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.

Our culture can come up with some words, recently I heard someone on the news talking about a phrase called ‘toxic masculinity’. Apparently, whoever they were talking about was not buying their world view of men behaving like men rather than the feminine version they were apparently looking for. Actually I think that may be one of the things that is missing in our upside down world, men that love the Lord, love their wives and kids, love their church, and love their country and are willing to do anything to see that all of these people and institutions are protected and actually prosper. Yeah, what we need is some men of God that are actually glad to be called men of God. Here is what Henry said about that.

“Paul uses this occasion to warn Timothy. He addresses himself to him as a man of God.…He charges Timothy to beware of the love of money. It is unfitting for God’s ministers to set their hearts on the things of this world; they should be taken up with the things of God. To protect Timothy against the love of the world, Paul directs him to follow what is good. It is not enough that God’s ministers flee these things; they must also pursue what is directly contrary to them. How excellent are God’s ministers (and men) who pursue righteousness! They are the excellent ones of the earth, and they should be approved by human beings. He exhorts Timothy to fulfill the role of a soldier. Those who want to get to heaven must fight their way there. It is a good fight, a good cause, and it will have a good outcome. It is the fight of faith. Eternal life is the crown offered us. We must take hold of this, as those who are afraid of falling short of it and losing it.”

So yeah, we are fighters. We are not fighting people but we are soldiers fighting against the spirit of this world. Our weapon is the word of God and our armor is the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. So stand up man of God and protect those given to your charge, the day of the Lord is at hand and we must stand with Him until that day.
