Matt.8:14 – And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever.
Jesus saw her. That may not seem like much but many times women feel overlooked. We don’t know the story of Peter’s mother in law but she was probably all alone in life, living with her daughter’s family. She probably found her value just taking care of this family as best as she could; but now she was sick. Apparently she was really sick not able to get out of bed and not able to do what she really liked doing, just taking care of the family. Her hope was fading fast until Jesus came to their house that day, she knew things were about to change when Jesus saw her. Of course He saw her, He sees you too. Even in those forgotten moments He sees you and He cares, your turnaround is about to happen.
This story could be repeated again and again, it was a common theme in the ministry of Jesus. There was another forgotten woman, she had been bleeding for twelve years and her life was over. She was either ignored or shunned, no one had time for this desperate woman, until Jesus came to town. This lady had heard the stories of others who had been healed, maybe even the story of Peter’s mother in law. She snuck through the crowd and received her touch, instantly her ailment was gone. That’s when it happened, Jesus locked eyes with her through the crowd, she couldn’t believe her eyes, He was looking at her and this look told her everything she needed to know, she was healed but even better she was loved by God.
Sadly, this is the story of far too many people, suffering in loneliness with not a chance to get better. There was another forgotten woman who was in a meeting at the synagogue where Jesus was preaching. This poor soul had been bent over double for eighteen years suffering from a sickness caused by a spirit, Jesus called it a spirit of infirmity. Again, Jesus saw her. Jesus is always looking, looking for the hurting that are looking to Him. If you are struggling with anything just look to Jesus. Maybe you feel like everyone has overlooked you, that’s a pretty good indication Jesus is looking at you. He has His eye on you and His miracle power is on the way. As far as the woman with the spirit of infirmity is concerned, one look and one word and she was healed, eighteen years of suffering were over in a moment of time.
