MIND SET ON JESUS CHRIST

Col.3:1,2 – If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

You have to admit, the world has taken on a new level of crazy since the Covid drama just a few years ago, mistrust of the government became common and rightly so. It’s gotten so bad today, amplified by social media, it has become hard to know what the real truth is. The nation has become even more polarized, even the body of Christ seems to be torn in different directions. I don’t think the biggest problem that we have is any of the problems we all see in our day to day world. What do I mean? Well our real problem is not the economy, the unusually crazy weather chaos, the political infighting, or even the wars that have broken out over the last couple of years. The disturbing thing to me is not these issues or the swirling opinions, especially with Christians, but it is what I consider the true problem. I feel far too many have lost their sense of the majesty and greatness of God. Well no one would ever admit that to be the case I just don’t see a large population of Christians overwhelmed by His goodness, His greatness, and yes His Sovereignty. Jesus has to be central in our world or we fall into the chaos that is consuming our population. Here are some powerful comments from John Piper written during the Covid outbreak, its worth having a look.

“The right ordering of our thoughts about reality comes from a right view, a right valuing of God and Christ and salvation at the center of all of our other thoughts. The picture is like a solar system. The sun is at the center of the solar system, and when the sun is central, the planets are all orbiting safely, beautifully in their proper place. That’s a picture of God in the center, and all of our thoughts assuming their rightful place. But what happens if the sun is displaced, and Mars — the planet Mars — becomes the center? What happens is that when you try to draw the orbits of the planets, when you try to understand the other realities in your life when God has been replaced by Mars as the center, things look terrifyingly chaotic; they’re out of order, and surely Mercury is going to crash into our planet. It is. Just look at this orbit. In other words, the root problem with disordered thinking is that the center has been removed.”

For me personally when I start to spin out of control and become anxious about everything going on all around me I have to do a little check on myself. What is that check? Are my eyes on the only Sovereign King of Kings, Jesus Christ? When my eyes are on Him it seems everything else falls in place.
