Matt.21:12,13 – And Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all those who were selling and buying on the temple grounds, and He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. And He *said to them, “It is written: ‘MY HOUSE WILL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER’; but you are making it a DEN OF ROBBERS.”
When things go sideways in our world we may be inclined to look to the Lord for a miracle. If the truth be known, these unpleasant circumstances may just be planned by the Lord in the first place, after all at the end of the day all He is looking for is our heart. Once He gets our attention He often begins His work of ‘house cleaning’. There may just be something there that is hindering us from receiving the things from the Lord that we are longing for. This is what the temple cleansing episode was about, cleansing the temple in preparation for God’s healing power to flow. So maybe its time to allow the Holy Spirit to search our hearts in order for the Lord to bring His cleansing to our world. Here is how Adam Clarke describes this event.
“Our Lord is represented here as purifying his temple; and this we may judge he did in reference to his true temple, the Church, to show that nothing that was worldly or unholy should have any place among his followers, or in that heart in which he should condescend to dwell. It is marvelous that these interested, vile men did not raise a mob against him: but it is probable they were overawed by the Divine power, or, seeing the multitudes on the side of Christ, they were afraid to molest him.”
So maybe the Lord wants to turn your life into “a house of prayer” if you want to see the power of God move into your life. Maybe this seems really out of reach for you, seeing yourself as a person of prayer may seem like quite a stretch. But think about this for a moment, you are reading this blog which indicates you have an interest in spiritual things. Maybe the Lord is drawing you in and opening your heart to His love. That just may be a part of His temple cleansing plan for your life.

Bringing along the self serving intertwined with gathering before the Lord must be permanently discontinued. Perhaps it’s not a choosing between a Mary or a Martha, but it’s combining the best of both while as Song of Songs instructs us “to remove all the little fox’s in our lives” To which Jesus adds “He will help”
