Acts 2:17-21 – And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;
even on my male servants and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
And I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
the sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’
Do you have some sort of presupposed version in your head of what the last days will look like? Even if we are not really aware of it the end of time seems to be locked into the sub-conscious of all of us. We may see some sort of apocalyptic picture in our heads with zombie like creatures roaming around on the earth. Others may see ‘big brother’ taking over and setting up guillotines for all of the uncooperative folks. Some may even have pictures of man becoming woke and there being some sort of one world utopia where everyone just shares the wealth with one another.
I actually think that the last days are already upon us and many folks just wander ho-hum through life as if nothing is really going on. What else could describe the crazy we have all experienced in the last few months? We just inaugurated a president who survived two assassination attempts and multiple court cases involving multiple charges apparently from a hostile justice department. We have had an Islamic extremist terrorist attack in New Orleans, an unprecedented fire storm in LA burning down thousands of multi-million dollar homes. As I write this blog there is a winter storm projection in New Orleans of 5-8 inches of snow, something like this snow storm hasn’t hit NOLA since 1895. Maybe these are the birth-pangs of the last days setting in on us.
Oh, I almost forgot, we have had daily prayer meetings at our church at 7 am and 7 pm for the past three weeks. Over 50 people praying each morning and over 100 people in the evenings. That also is a sign and a wonder. Something amazing and different is happening under our noses. Maybe the Lord is pouring out His Spirit on all ‘flesh’. The Lord knows, with everything that is going on, we sure need it.
