Ps.16:11 – You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
David had several of his Psalms saturated with the sense of the resurrected and glorified Son of God. Psalm 16 David speaks of the everlasting joys of heaven and immediately describes its source, Jesus at the right hand of the Father. These pleasures are flowing from this place of intimacy between the Father and the Son, the place that the Eternal Son has been enthroned to rule the universe and pray for His elect. Jesus of Nazareth, Son of God and Son of Man, has received His inheritance, eternal joy in the presence of the Father. The best news of all, we are seated with Him in His throne and are tasting right now the joy of the world to come breaking in on us. Here is how Thomas Brooks describes this important verse.
“In thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Mark, for quality, there are pleasures; for quantity, fulness; for dignity, at God’s right hand; for eternity, for evermore. And millions of years multiplied by millions, make not up one minute to this eternity of joy that the saints shall have in heaven. In heaven there shall be no sin to take away your joy, nor no devil to take away your joy; nor no man to take away your joy. “Your joy no man taketh from you.” John 16:22. The joy of the saints in heaven is never ebbing, but always flowing to all contentment. The joys of heaven never fade, never wither, never die, nor never are lessened nor interrupted. The joy of the saints in heaven is a constant joy, an everlasting joy, in the root and in the cause, and in the matter of it and in the objects of it. “Their joy lasts for ever whose objects remain for ever.”
This is the portion of every Christian, eternal joy beginning now as we enjoy our heavenly inheritance. One of the key signs that someone has experienced true conversion is this new sense of joy in their lives. This joy does not come from His provision (although He gloriously provides) and it doesn’t come from physical healing or deliverance from some foul addiction (even though He also does all of that), but this joy is literally other worldly. It is the joy that the Father and Son enjoy and this has become our portion also. We taste the edge of it now and will literally be swimming in supernatural joy from everlasting to everlasting discovering the infinite love of God for eternity.
