SEATED IN HEAVEN – THE PLACE OF UNVEILED WORSHIP

Rev.5:8,9 – Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song…

True worship is not about a certain style or even talent, worship is spiritual, inspired and birthed by the Holy Spirit. If that statement is true then worship comes from personal knowledge that flows out of our experience with the Lord. The Apostle Paul says that we are seated together in heavenly places with Christ. That statement from Paul makes me think of what happened to the Apostle John while praying on the Isle of Patmos. Suddenly John found himself at the throne in heaven, caught up in the Spirit. If we really are currently seated in heavenly places then all that happened to John that day was the supernatural ability to see what is actually going on. Seeing what is currently happening in heaven would change us dramatically. Seeing Christ in His place of glory on the Throne of God totally transforms us, we become true worshippers of God. Victorinus of Petovium wrote a commentary on Revelation in the third Century, check out his comments on this verse.

β€œThe twenty-four elders and the four animals had harps and bowls and were singing a new song. The preaching of the Old Testament joined with the New reveals the Christian people singing a new song, that is, the proclaiming of their public confession. It is new that the Son of God became man; it is new that he was given over into death by men; it is new that he rose again on the third day; it is new that he ascended in the body into heaven; it is new that he gives the forgiveness of sins to men; it is new that men are sealed with the Holy Spirit; it is new that they receive the priestly service of supplication and await a kingdom of such immense if that statement is true then promises.”

Victorinus honed in on why we worship, worship flows out of a relationship with the Lord as well as a revelation of the redemptive work of Jesus at the cross. So this story now becomes your story. We come into His presence by the blood of Jesus, we begin to live there, abiding in His presence. Enjoying this position of being seated in heavenly places with Jesus spills over into my day to day life. I have become a worshipper of the Almighty God.

  2. This is where I see the most room for improvement among the body of Christ. Surely when a small or large gathering occurs for the express purpose of worship and reception, the very atmosphere becomes charged by His presence, but still to some this either goes unnoticed or ignored. Then the other 98% of the time we live this life in singularity of reception and thoughts (in other words just me and His spirit to communicate with) this is where we either grow in knowledge and intimacy or we drain the filling from our corporate gathering which leaves us mostly empty and vulnerable to the influences of this world. We all need to fill, but what that consists of …. You decide.
