NO WORDS COULD TELL

Jn.21:25 – TPT – Jesus did countless things that I haven’t included here. And if every one of his works were written down and described one by one, I suppose that the world itself wouldn’t have enough room to contain the books that would have to be written!

You don’t have to be around me for long to figure out that I absolutely love the book of John. I love John’s emphasis on Jesus as the Eternal Word, the Word Who became a man, His clear depiction of Jesus as the Son of God, and also John’s focus on the Resurrection and the resurrection power that flows throughout the Lord’s life and ministry. In the last verse of John’s gospel he really describes the frustration he was constantly confronted with by trying to describe the infinite nature of Jesus with the limitation imposed by human words. John explains that he couldn’t begin to scratch the surface of the greatness of the life and ministry of Jesus with his words but he wrote what he could so that we might believe on the Lord ourselves. Here is how Barclay describes this verse.

“In this last chapter, the writer of the Fourth Gospel has set certain great truths before the Church for whom he wrote. He has reminded them of the reality of the resurrection; he has reminded them of the universality of the Church; he has reminded them that Peter and John are not competitors in honor, but that Peter is the great shepherd and John the great witness. Now he comes to the end; and he comes there thinking once again of the splendor of Jesus Christ. Whatever we know of Christ, we have only grasped a fragment of him. Whatever the wonders we have experienced, they are as nothing to the wonders which we may yet experience. Human categories are powerless to describe Christ, and human books are inadequate to hold him. And so John ends with the innumerable triumphs, the inexhaustible power and the limitless grace of Jesus Christ.”

By the grace of God I have seen amazing things in my half century living as a Christian. I have seen thousands of people give their lives to Christ, I have seen the Lord moving in many nations of the world, I have been privileged to pastor an amazing church for almost fifty years. I have been privileged to be at the epicenter of two amazing moves of God, the Jesus Revolution and the River Outpouring. All I know is the surface has yet to be even scratched, by God’s grace I want to see one last great revival touch this world before I finish my race.
