1 Peter 3:22 – who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.
This had to be quite shocking to the angels in heaven when Jesus of Nazareth took His place on the throne as the ultimate Sovereign over all things. The angels had known Christ in eternity past but did not know Him as a man. They were stunned by His humanity and amazed by His authority and Sovereignty that He showed as a man. When Christ ascended into heaven He took His place as High Priest, Intercessor, Baptizer in the Holy Spirit and also as the King of all kings. This man now is the King of the universe ruling all things by His mighty word. This heavenly ministry is not known or preached about in today’s modern church world, it was a foundational message in the first days of His church so many years ago. Here is how Matthew Henry describes this aspect of the heavenly ministry of Jesus.
“Because he humbled himself, God exalted him; he highly exalted him. He exalted his whole person, the human nature as well as the divine. His exaltation here is said to consist in honor and power. He had a name above every name. Every knee must bow to him. The whole creation must be put in submission to him: things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth, the inhabitants of heaven and earth, the living and the dead. At the name of Jesus all would give solemn homage. Every tongue would confess that Jesus Christ is LORD. The kingdom of Christ reaches to heaven and earth, and to all the creatures in each, and to the dead as well as the living. To the glory of God the Father. Whatever respect is given to Christ leads to the honor of the Father.”
If we are honest, sometimes it doesn’t quite look like Jesus is in charge. In our personal lives as well as in the world things can seem to be in a constant state of turmoil, nothing could be further from the truth. Paul discovered this lesson, the lesson of yielding when things aren’t like you hoped. The Lord told Paul to stop kicking against Him, just go with the flow. That’s what He may be saying to you today, stop striving, let God be God, and watch the King of kings orchestrate your life.
