JESUS THE BAPTIZER

Acts 2:33 – Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

This verse gives us the theological description of the Baptism in the Spirit as well as the practical way to receive this most important gift. I saw this connection in the early days of my ministry as a pastor in New Orleans. I saw clearly that the ascension and glorification of Jesus were directly connected to people receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Next I saw in this verse the simple yet profound way to step into this very important spiritual experience. I had missed it for years but there it was in black and white ready for me to believe and express this truth. Here it is in its profound simplicity, glorify Jesus with your voice. Lifting up your voice to the Lord in worship and acknowledging His greatness and His goodness will impact your life. Here is how the Life in the Spirit Commentary describes this.

“God has poured out the Spirit. After establishing Jesus as the Messiah who must be raised from the dead, Peter shows that the Savior has actually been exalted to the throne of God (v. 33). Although Peter and his companions have seen Jesus ascend into heaven, for him to allude to their having seen Jesus disappear into the cloud (1:9) would be unconvincing. Therefore, his appeal is to what his audience has seen and heard—Peter and his colleagues speaking in tongues, tongues of fire sitting on their heads, and a sound like a great wind from heaven. For Peter this outpouring of the Spirit is proof that Jesus has been “exalted to the right hand of God,” meaning that he is at a place of honor at God’s side. Another possible translation is “exalted by the right hand of God,” emphasizing the power of God in the exaltation of Jesus.”

Jesus is sitting at the Father’s right hand as King of all kings and Lord of all lords. We enter into that realm where He exists simply by worship. Worship the Lord out loud, lift up your voice in a song. Sing to Him again and again and you will be transformed. Acknowledged Jesus in His heavenly ministry and your life will be radically changed.
