Ps.133:1-3 – Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to live together in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head,
Running down upon the beard,
As on Aaron’s beard,
The oil which ran down upon the edge of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion;
For the LORD commanded the blessing there—life forever.
As you probably already know oil is a picture of the Holy Spirit seen all throughout the Bible. David spoke of his head being anointed with oil, the oil in the lamps of the ten virgins was a picture of the Holy Spirit, and in today’s verse Aaron has oil poured upon him by Moses as he was anointed as the first High Priest. There wasn’t just a little dab of oil on Aaron or on David, the oil was poured on them and encompassed their whole body. This is a picture of a believer being baptized in the Holy Spirit, total saturation with the oil of heaven changes everything. Here is how Max Lucado describes this heavenly oil.
“God has so doused you with his Spirit that you will never be in a place where the Spirit is not. God has decreed you to be special to him. You are unique among people. You are part of his priesthood (1 Peter 2:5). He has soaked you with himself.
Bask in this blessing.
Don’t grade yourself according to the inches of your waist, the square footage of your house, the color of your skin, the label on your clothing, the presence of awards, or the absence of pimples. You are above all that. You are not the sum total of your salary or your Instagram followers. Your value does not depend on the car you drive or the jewelry you wear. You’ve been anointed by the Holy Spirit. This anointing changes everything.”
Many Christians have no understanding of the anointing. I know this from personal experience, I pastored a Pentecostal church for sixteen years before I experience the anointing from heaven for myself. The heavenly oil being poured on my head changed everything in my life. Now I knew about the Holy Spirit before all of this and even prayed in tongues as well. But having the oil poured upon me in a greater measure is what did it for me. Before that time I was satisfied with the Holy Spirit not being preeminent in my life or in my church, those days are long gone. Today I long for His saturating presence in my life and in our church, nothing else can compare to the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
