THE SOUND OF KRAKATOA – REVIVAL HAS A SOUND

1 Kings 18:41 – Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.”

Elijah was hearing what others couldn’t hear. That is how it is with spiritual things, without the influence of the Spirit we are blind and deaf to the things of God. Jesus would often say, “you have eyes to see but you can’t see, you have ears to hear but you can’t hear”. Elijah was praying for rain and heard the coming downpour by the influence of the Holy Spirit on his life. This is how it is with the things of the Spirit in times of great outpouring. Some people can hear nothing while others hear the sound of heaven.

I remember a night like this years ago in a powerful revival service. It was a very unusual night with an unusually strong outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It was so overwhelming that literally several thousand people were on the floor in the glory with no way of getting up. When the glory began to lift and I came to myself I remember hearing a famous minister near me on the front pew say “I don’t feel anything, do you feel anything?”. That moment is seared in my mind, to me it seemed impossible to not ‘feel’ what was in that room but apparently some had no awareness of God’s presence there that night.

One of those ‘feelings’ is the ability to hear the sound of heaven in revival. The outpouring of the Spirit causes us to hear what others can’t hear. The Volcanic eruption of Krakatoa sent a sound across the globe just as the eruptions of God send His sound into the world. Here is a quote from Google bout the sound of Krakatoa.

Sound Waves:
The eruption produced a sound so loud that it was heard across the globe, making it one of the loudest sounds ever recorded. The explosion was reportedly heard 4800 km (3000 miles) away, where people described the sound as “cannon fire from a nearby ship”.

Elijah clearly heard what others couldn’t hear. He heard by the Spirit the coming storm of rain upon the land. Those under the influence of the outpouring of the Spirit of God hear the sounds of heaven that others can’t hear. Something fresh is upon us, I hear the sound of heaven moving upon the world once again.
