THE SITUATION IS HOPELESS

Matt.14:14 – TPT – Later that afternoon the disciples came to Jesus and said, “It’s going to be dark soon and the people are hungry, but there’s nothing to eat here in this desolate place. You should send the crowds away to the nearby villages to buy themselves some food.”

Forget about it, the situation is hopeless; we have all said those words a time or two. As a matter of fact that is what many have said about the city of New Orleans. “That city is just too dark, you should go somewhere else, you surely don’t want to raise your kids there.” Apparently there are many that think we are in the ministry for our own benefit, now don’t get me wrong there are plenty benefits from serving the Lord wherever you find yourself. But at the end of the day we are here because New Orleans needs the Lord. That’s basically how Jesus responded to the disciples request to send the people away, “you give them something to eat”. It was really quite simple, they were called to minister to people and Jesus was there to supply whatever was needed, He always does. Here is how Spurgeon responds to the disciples’ request to disperse the crowd.

“Note the disciples’ word: “The time is now past. ” We usually think the times are unpropitious for large attempts. As for the position, it is hopeless: “This is a desert place. ” What can be done here? As for the disciples’ proposal, it was of a kind which is common enough: “Don’t let the people die under our noses; pull down the rookery in the next street; clear out the bad houses from our district.” “Send the multitude away. ” Or, better still, show the people the dignity of self-help! Talk to them about thrift and emigration. Urge them to go into the villages, and buy themselves victual. This is a favorite nostrum at this day with those who want to save their own loaves and fishes. Our Lord has nobler thoughts than theirs: he will display his royal bounty among the hunger, crowd.”

When the Lord leads you to do something it is often not difficult, it is absolutely impossible. He will ask things like build a boat to save all the animals in the world, preach the gospel to all nations, or a command for a Pharisee to preach the gospel to gentiles. Maybe He has one of those impossible projects for you; what is your response? Just bring it to Him with whatever resources you have and get ready for a miracle.

  1. Simply the impossible, we should recognize this as God’s calling card. I think to the old western movies with the dressed up pitch man and his wagon full of “miracle elixir in a bottle” only his IS to good to be true, not so of ANYTHING God involves Himself in. War and peace it’s a constant in this environment just as unbelief and faith are there for the choosing. Aren’t you really glad you have a Helper!
