John 6:14 – TPT – All the people were astounded as they saw with their own eyes the incredible miracle Jesus had performed! They began to say among themselves, “He really is the One—the true prophet we’ve been expecting!”
God’s miracles are around all of us every moment of every day, our problem is we are so accustomed to His greatness and His goodness that we treat all of His amazing provision as common or just plain ordinary. Have you ever considered how much vegetation is required everyday to feed the elephants not to mention the Zebras, the Wildebeests, and all of the deer like creatures. What about the kreel to feed the blue whales, and the fish for the dolphin, and the shrimp for all of the trout and other shrimp eating fish. And of course we can’t forget the daily supply of food and water for the 7 billion people that inhabit this planet. In the scope of God’s creation this is all minuscule in light of the magnitude of just how big the known universe is. So why is it so hard to believe that the Lord could feed 5000 with a little boy’s lunch? I guess it must be because this is not the normal way the Lord supplies for us but both ways are His supernatural power on display. Here is how Augustine described this miracle.
“The divine substance is not visible to the eye, and the miracles of the divine government of the world and ordering of the whole creation are overlooked because of their constancy.… Because of this, God has reserved for himself acts that are above and beyond the established course and order of nature that he does at suitable times. He does this so that those who overlooked the daily course of nature might be roused to wonder by the sight of what was different from—though not at all greater than—what they were used to. The government of the world is certainly a greater miracle than satisfying the hunger of five thousand with five loaves; and yet no one wonders at this. The miracle excited wonder, not from any real superiority in it but because it was rare.… He saw the multitude and knew they were hungry, and so he mercifully fed them not only in virtue of his goodness but also of his power. For what could mere goodness do when there was not even enough bread to feed the hungry crowd? If power had not accompanied goodness, the crowd would have remained fasting and hungry.”
You and I are surrounded by God’s goodness and His power every moment of everyday, its just that we tend to be unaware and unmoved by Him because these things are always there. He has taken care of each of us from the day we were conceived and He has us until our final breath. When we need a miracle we look to Him just like the little boy did that day when Jesus fed the 5000 with a few fish and a few pieces of bread, in moments like that Jesus breaks into our world.
