Ps.19:1-4 – The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
It’s almost as if a haze blocks our view of the beauty of God that is taken away when we have a true encounter with the Spirit of God. When the Lord opens our eyes suddenly we see His beauty in all things. Our perception of Jesus changes, He becomes real to us and we are overwhelmed by His goodness. Suddenly His word is beautiful astounding us with the wisdom of God. Our view of the church also changes, instead of seeing its failing and human blemishes we are stunned by His beauty clearly displayed in the way He has adorned His bride. As today’s passage describes we also become aware of God’s beauty on full display in His creation. His glory is all around us. Jonathan Edwards had an encounter in his youth that caused him to see God’s glory in all things, especially in creation. Here is something he said about his view of God’s glory in creation.
“After this my sense of divine things gradually increased, and became more and more lively, and had more of that inward sweetness. The appearance of everything was altered: there seemed to be, as it were, a calm, sweet cast, or appearance of divine glory, in almost everything. God’s excellency, his wisdom, his purity and love, seemed to appear in everything; in the sun, moon and stars; in the clouds, and blue sky; in the grass, flowers, trees; in the water, and all nature; which used greatly to fix my mind. I often used to sit and view the moon, for a long time; and so in the daytime, spent much time in viewing the clouds and sky, to behold the sweet glory of God in these things: in the meantime, singing forth with a low voice, my contemplations of the Creator and Redeemer.”
This is what happens when you come in touch with God’s love for yourself, your eyes are opened and you see Him for yourself in all things. There is a joy and excitement about the things of God as you suddenly find yourself swallowed up in His world.
