HOWLING IN HELL OR REJOICING IN HEAVEN

Ps.100:2 – Come before His presence with singing.

Singing is a huge part of our human experience. Have you ever thought about God’s intention of making humans with the ability to communicate with words? Even better, what did the Lord have in mind when He created us to sing? So what is the subject of your songs? Before I was saved I listened to songs about revolution, substance abuse, and on a good day songs about falling in love. Today there is a new song in my heart, a song of redemption and celebration. Apparently this singing originates in heaven at the throne of God and flows out into the world. The beauty of this is that it will continue and intensify in heaven. What about the lost? What about those singing those other songs? Here is what Jonathan Edwards said about that.

“If you don’t learn to sing this new song, the time will soon come, that when God’s servants “sing for joy of heart, you shall mourn for sorrow of heart and howl for vexation of spirit”. You shall see your neighbors hereafter full of joy and shall hear them singing, and you shall see “many come from the east and from the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven”, falling down in the kingdom of God, singing the new song, when you shall wail and gnash your teeth, and shall howl with devils with most doleful and dolorous lamentations and cries. Thus it shall be at the day of judgment, when you shall see a shining glorious company at the right hand of Christ singing the new song, and you shall be at the left among devils and shall shriek with dismal outcries at the hearing of that dreadful sentence, “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels”. And consider that there never, never will be an end to that mourning and that howling.”

So if my joy will intensify when I step into the very presence of the Lord in heaven and my singing will also intensify, what about the lost? It makes sense that the misery of the lost will also intensify throughout eternity. Rather than a song of joy it will be the song of the damned that they sing. Today is the day of salvation, maybe its time to let the Lord come and teach you His brand new songs.
