HAVE A SEAT

John 6:1-3 – After this Jesus went to the other side of the Lake of Tiberias, which is also known as Lake Galilee. And a massive crowd of people followed him everywhere. They were attracted by his miracles and the healings they watched him perform. Jesus went up the slope of a hill and sat down with his disciples.

Sometimes it’s good to just sit down and be with the Lord. There often seems to be undue pressure that we put on ourselves to perform when it comes to religious matters. Sometimes it is okay to just lie on the floor in His presence and just enjoy the moment. The Lord likes being with us. After all we are His sons and daughters and we will be in an amazing family relationship with Him in eternity. Learning to be still and sit with Him in this crazy world will go a long way in the next one. What brings about that kind of contentment and takes the restlessness from our hearts? It is seeing the greatness and goodness of the Lord. The disciples that sat with Christ on earthly mountains recognized His new place to sit after His resurrection, seated at the Father’s right hand. Preaching about Christ seated at the right hand of God was apparently in almost all of those sermons at the beginning of the church. And why not? They have often spent time just sitting with Christ enjoying being close to Him, maybe that’s part of what it means for Him to be seated in heaven.

I can remember so clearly learning this lesson of just being still in the presence of the Lord. This happened for me in the outpouring that many of us experienced in 1994. Before that I was so accustomed to running at a frenzied pace ‘doing the work of God’. It seemed so strange for me to be overwhelmed by His presence and literally do nothing for hours as I learned to just sit down and be with Him. “Be still and know that He is God”. This is the first prophetic word spoken over me, fifty years later I am still trying to learn what it means, be still and know. The disciples had the privilege of being with Jesus, you and I have the honor of being with the Holy Spirit. So come on in and have a seat, be still for a few minutes and just listen. There is nothing better in this life than just sitting with Jesus.
