SEVEN DESCRIPTIONS OF ALLOS PARACLETOS – Part 1

John14:16 – AMPC – And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever—

The verses in John 14:16 in the Amplified Bible are classic. This translation brings out the different shades of meaning in the powerful Bible word paracletos. The Amplified Bible uses seven different words to help define and describe this beautiful word that gives us a glimpse into the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Enjoy this description of this beautiful Bible Word.

I. COMFORTER.

Col.1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation,

The first word that is used in the King James Bible is the classic word, Comforter. This has always been a beloved title and description of the precious Holy Spirit. He is the Comforter and comforts us in the midst of our troubles. There is nothing quite like the love of God coming upon us in our difficult days. He truly comforts us with supernatural comfort to sustain us in our darkest of times.

II. COUNSELOR

1 Cor.15:26 – EXP – I will send you the ·Helper [Counselor; Advocate; the Holy Spirit] from the Father; he is the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father.

The Spirit of God does give us wisdom and counsel when we have no idea how to proceed. Not only does He give us the information we need, He is truly a counselor.

His words are filled with therapy. Often, thousands of dollars are spent for professional counsel, which can sometimes bring great benefit. The counsel of the Holy Spirit is even greater than the

counsel of a trained professional. His counsel is filled with supernatural life that brings healing to our souls.

III. HELPER

Rom.8:26 – Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.

This is one of my favorite descriptions of the precious Holy Spirit. He helps us in all of our weaknesses. His help is so personal and so powerful because He works inside of us. Paul said that the Spirit helps us through groanings and sighs as we yield to Him in prayer. What kind of help do you need today? Yield to the Spirit as you pray, and suddenly He will join together with you to help you overcome all of your challenges and weaknesses. He is our Helper, always present, always ready to help us.
