Matt.28:1-4 – Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.
The whole world would be changed because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This was the beginning of God’s new prophetic in day for all of mankind. This is what the prophets had spoken of for hundreds of years, the day of the fulfillment of all of those messages had finally come. The first historic event of this new day began that evening. The disciples had gathered that first night after the resurrection trying to sort out the events of that day. Suddenly Jesus just appeared in the room. This wasn’t a vision or a spirit, Christ was there with them in the room. He was in His new body but He was clearly flesh and bones. That’s when it happened, He breathed on them and said “Receive the Holy Spirit”. This was the first time man was experiencing the new birth. This is what this new day was all about.
This new life filled the disciples with supernatural power. Not many days later the Holy Spirit would come upon them again and they would began to experience the miracle anointing that was on Jesus flowing through them as well. These miracles were the results of this resurrection power that was now flowing through them. This power brought credible confirmation to their words. They boldly declared that they were eyewitnesses of the resurrection of Jesus, these miracles backed up everything they said. Their message made it clear that a new day had begun. This may not be what everyone expected from the appearance of the Messiah. This was not a political kingdom but it definitely was a new kingdom; this was the appearance of the kingdom of God. Because of these miracles the whole world was about to be changed. Peter confirmed all of this with His sermon on the Day of Pentecost. He boldly declared that because of the death and resurrection of Christ all of mankind now had access to God. These miracles and the outpouring of the Spirit were God’s bold public declaration that His Son was alive from the dead and the world had been permanently changed.
