Ps.46:4,5 – There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
David wrote his Psalms by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Often, the things that he spoke, were beyond his understanding. In this passage, David is singing about the church with the River of God flowing through it. He mentions in this passage about our help coming at the break of dawn. There is a ray of revelation in this verse about the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The resurrection is our hope because when Christ was raised from the dead all those who believe in Him were also raised from the dead. He has helped and birthed His church at the light of dawn on that first resurrection morn. Here is how Ambrose describes this passage.
“By his resurrection at dawn, the Lord confers on us wonderful and heavenly helps. His resurrection dispelled the night and poured on us the light of day. As Scripture says, “Rise, O sleeper; arise from the dead, and Christ shall enlighten you.” Consider here a mystery. Christ suffered in the evening, and according to the Old Law, the lamb is slain at evening. … In the evening of this world, when the light is failing, he is killed. All this world would have been shrouded by even greater and more horrid darkness only that Christ came to us from heaven. He, the eternal light, came to us from heaven to restore to the human race the age of innocence. The Lord Jesus suffered, and by his blood forgave us our sins. The light of a pure conscience shone out and a day of spiritual grace dawned with splendor.”
So today God’s people live at the break of dawn. The night time of this fallen age is coming to a close and the first rays of God’s day that split the sky at the resurrection of Christ are growing brighter. The day of the Lord is breaking in on us. So for us, caught between the closing of the old age and the beginning of the new, we are experiencing God’s supernatural help. His River is flowing through us and filling us with His joy. His light is awakening us so that we can behold the glory of the Lord. His glory is in us so that we can taste His beauty and magnificence. His Spirit is flowing into us us filling us with resurrection life. His mantle is upon us filling us with the power of God. He is helping us, the new day has dawned.
