Ps.103:1-3 – Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
This passage rejoices in the two fold blessing of redemption, He forgives all of our sins and heals all of our diseases. All of us are “sick” in some way and all of us need forgiveness, its part of our plight being part of a fallen race. David had a revelation of the forgiveness and healing offered to us through the mercy of the Lord; David’s response was to worship and give thanks to the Lord. Today in this New Testament season we have an even better glimpse of redemption. Christ carried our sickness and our sin in His body on the cross and by His wounds we are made whole. We can join with David in his song of worship to our Lord. As we look to the Lord, seated at the right hand of God, we see the marks of redemption in His body. Gazing on the crucified, resurrected, and glorified Lord all we can do is worship. Here is how Spurgeon describes this Psalm.
“God gives efficacy to medicine for the body, and his grace sanctifies the soul. Spiritually we are daily under his care, and he visits us, as the surgeon does his patient; healing still (for that is the exact word) each malady as it arises. No disease of our soul baffles his skill, he goes on healing all, and he will do so till the last trace of taint has gone from our nature. The two alls of this verse are further reasons for all that is within us praising the Lord. The two blessings of this verse the Psalmist was personally enjoying, he sang not of others but of himself, or rather of his Lord, who was daily forgiving and healing him. He must have known that it was so, or he could not have sung of it. He had no doubt about it, he felt in his soul that it was so, and, therefore, he bade his pardoned and restored soul bless the Lord with all its might.”
There is infinite healing power in the precious blood of Jesus. His mercy is everlasting and as we receive forgiveness of sins the results is that we are made whole. So let’s join with David and bless our Lord, He forgives all my sins and heals all of my diseases.
