Matt.15:30,31 – And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them: Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
The compassion of the Lord is what attracts us to Him. He loves each of us no matter what and has a plan of healing and restoration for all of us. There are two critical things we see at the beginning of this passage that gives us a glimpse into this incredible display of healing. First, we see family and friends doing whatever they can to bring their loved ones to Jesus. Apparently many of these folks were incapacitated and couldn’t bring themselves to the Lord. It was either physical or emotional trauma that had stopped many of these folks from even being able to function in life. Bringing these people to Jesus was critical. The next thing is anything but religious, they cast them down at Jesus feet. The language here is unmistakeable, the word cast means to hurl or throw down. These were not acts of carelessness, because of the crowd an aggressive toss seemed to be required. This reminds us of the desperate measures of four friends tearing off a roof to bring their friend to Jesus. Matthew Henry describes this scene.
“Such was the power of Christ that he healed all kinds of diseases; those who came to him brought their sick relatives and friends with them and cast (laid) them down at Jesus’ feet. We do not read about anything said to him by those who came, but they laid their dear ones down in front of him as objects of pity. Their illnesses spoke more eloquently for them than the voice of the most skilled orator could. Whatever our situation is like, the only way to find peace and relief is to lay it at Christ’s feet, referring it to him for his decision. Here lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others were brought to Christ. Notice what terrible work sin has made! What a variety of diseases human bodies are subject to! Notice how the Savior works. He conquers those forces that are the enemies of the human race. He sent his word, and healed them (Ps 107:20). This shows Christ’s power, which can strengthen us in all our weaknesses, and also his sympathy, which can comfort us in all our miseries.”
The other point that we need to notice is that they were left at Jesus feet. When we have exhausted our resources and efforts this is where we often find ourselves, at the feet of Jesus. This is the place miracles happen; at the feet of Jesus is where the blind see, the deaf hear, and the lame leap for joy. If you are distraught or know someone that is, the answers can be found at His feet.
