Heb.10:19-21 – Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having a high priest over the house of God; let us draw near…
I don’t think many Christians realize what has been made accessible to them. What am I referring to? The greatest of all blessings is right under our noses and many just miss it; I am talking about access into the presence of God. I am not talking about just believing you have access and neither am I referring to some kind of feelings. What I am saying is that God is near and we can literally draw near and taste His goodness. One of the essential keys to coming into His presence is easier said than done. I am talking about humility. This is how David said it.
Ps.34:1,2 – “I will bless the — LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.”
So I guess you could say without humility you can never see the Lord. Spurgeon described humility and its role in seeking the Lord.
“They are usually grieved to hear boastings; they turn aside from vauntings and lofty speeches, but boasting in the Lord is quite another matter; by this the most lowly are consoled and encouraged. The confident expressions of tried believers are a rich solace to their brethren of less experience. We ought to talk of the Lord’s goodness on purpose that others may be confirmed in their trust in a faithful God.”
Where does this humility come from? Actually humility is a gift from the Lord. Seeing His greatness has to humble us, in the presence of His majesty we are brought low. Here is how Augustine saw it.
“What prompts a person to bless the Lord at all times? Being humble. What does being humble consist in? Being unwilling to be praised in yourself. Any of us who want to be praised in ourselves are proud, but whoever is not proud is humble.”
This is why I always wondered about men who got into pride when they carried the anointing on their life. I suppose that would come from a wrong view of the anointing. It’s not for advancement of your ministry but the advancement of God. Seeing that changes everything.
