ABRAHAM WALKED BY FAITH

Heb.11:8-10 – By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Abraham is possibly the greatest example of walking by faith in all of the Word of God. Abraham forsook a comfortable life with his family to follow the call of God upon his life. Abraham was promised a land, a new race of people from his son, and a promise of a blessing on all the people of the earth for the rest of time. This was a pretty big promise, especially since his wife Sarah was barren. All Abraham had to live on was the promise of God. That proved to be more than enough. As he walked by faith his wife became pregnant with his son Isaac when Abraham was 99 years old. Abraham could have given up but he was walking by faith. Here is how Matthew Henry sees it.

“The exercise of Abraham’s faith. He went out, not knowing whither he went. He put himself into the hands of God, to send him wherever he pleased. All who are effectively called submit their own will and wisdom to the will and wisdom of God. Although they do not always know their way, they know their guide. He sojourned in the land of promise as in a strange country. This was an exercise of his faith. Abraham lived in Canaan only as a stranger. He lived in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. The promise is made to believers and their children (Ac 2:39), and it is pleasant to see parents and children staying together in this world as heirs of the heavenly inheritance.”

So what can I learn from Abraham? Walk with God and listen to His voice. When He speaks His promises over you take it and live by it. It may not look the way you wanted but walk by faith in the promise of God like Abraham and you will see His plan for your life come to pass.
