CREATOR AND REDEEMER

Heb.1:10-12 –
“YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH,
AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;
THEY WILL PERISH, BUT YOU REMAIN;
AND THEY ALL WILL WEAR OUT LIKE A GARMENT,
AND LIKE A ROBE YOU WILL ROLL THEM UP;
LIKE A GARMENT THEY WILL ALSO BE CHANGED.
BUT YOU ARE THE SAME,
AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT COME TO AN END.”

The author of Hebrews ends his opening comments in this passage and quote from the Psalms. This mystery of God is being unfolded; Christ is a man, He is the Creator of all things, and He is our Redeemer. We were in such a mess only God in the form of a man could fix it. This is the heart of the good news of Jesus Christ; this man, Jesus of Nazareth is God in human flesh and He has come to deliver us from the consequences of our sin. Only the Almighty power of the Creator could restore fallen man; that is exactly what Jesus has done. Here is Andrew Murray on this passage.

“Christ, thy Redeemer, is the everlasting and unchangeable One: hast thou heard Him speak?” l, Jehovah, change not; therefore ye are not consumed,” and learnt to trust Him as the One who is each moment to thee all that He can be, and who will, without variation or shadow of turning, maintain in never ceasing power His life within thee? Oh learn that God saw it needful to speak to thee through none other than such a One as could reach the heart and fill it with the power of His eternal Word. The Almighty Son, through whom God hath created all things, who upholds and fills all things by the word of His power; this is He who will even so, in the power of His Godhead, uphold and fill thy whole life and being. Thy Creator is thy Redeemer!”

What is the point of all of this? The prophets could never save us because of their own sinful condition, they too needed a Savior. The angels could not save us because they were not part of our race. No one was found capable to redeem mankind until Jesus, the lion of the tribe of Judah, became a man without sin. Only a man could redeem us, only a perfect man would qualify, only the Creator could also be our Redeemer.

  1. Why would Jesus want to redeem that which He did not create? Before you can believe and acknowledge Jesus as your redeemer, you better be sure that He also is your Creator.
    Beside being logical … it is fact!
