JESUS ANOINTED FOR HIS HEAVENLY MINISTRY

Heb.1:8,9 – But to the Son He says:
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”

This is one of the most mysterious and important passages found in the New Testament. In this passage we gain an quick look on the inside of what happened when Jesus returned to heaven as a man. This was the most amazing moment ever in heaven, God had become a man, was crucified, resurrected, and now ascended into heaven and took His place at place of authority and power over all of creation. When He took His place, the Father anointed His Son, the man Jesus Christ, to be our heavenly High Priest, Intercessor, Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, and the Sovereign King over all things. So we see Jesus lifted up above all of the angels and all of the believers from every generation, He is Lord of all and is moving in His heavenly role by the power of the Holy Spirit. Here is how Lucas Osiander describes this moment.

“Even the mystery of the Trinity must be noted in this verse. God the Father anoints the Son: God the Son is anointed by the Father. And he is anointed with the oil of gladness, that is, God the Holy Spirit, conferring his own gifts abundantly and without measure on the Son of Man: who by another reason is the eternal God. But in the first place it must be observed that the apostle to the Hebrews here adduces the prophecy concerning Christ so that he might commend the divinity of Christ, and might remove him (according to his divine nature) from the number of creatures.”

The mystery of the Trinity is clearly seen in the heavenly anointing of Jesus. Today, two thousand years after His death, He still operates as our Advocate, Intercessor, and heavenly minister. Seeing today’s verses remind me again just how important the heavenly ministry of Jesus is. I need Him for salvation, forgiveness, and empowerment every day. This moment in the scriptures is at the very center of everything I believe about the Lord. Here I find my Savior, my Priest, and the One who anoints me for ministry. We are filled with power because of this heavenly anointing on Jesus, you draw near to Him and this oil of gladness will get all over you.

  1. Wow! And Amen 🥳
    I remember Pastor Parris asking ladies to pray for women that had lost a child/children. (This took place at a women’s retreat at Gulf Shores Alabama).
    After lots of hands laid on me, the heaviness of grief ‘packed a suitcase and walked out the door’ I felt free! The next morning I grabbed my guitar and began to sing. In the middle of the song, I closed my eyes, and heard the audible voice of God! He spoke to me gently but powerfully. Saying ‘don’t look to the right or the left’, sing to Me, don’t worry about what anyone says, sing to Me like you used to at Victory! At the same moment I had a vision of three large drops of oil poured on the top of my head ~ more Anointing for music ministry ❣️ A moment in time that I will never forget ❣️The next song I sang/played on my guitar was from the depths of my soul ~ it wasn’t just me, it was God working through me to reach others for his Glory.
    He comes in scoops us up when it seems that no one is there. My Mom died in 2018, my Son in 2019, My Dad passed on June 8th. I’m of a deep calling of usefulness for the Glory of God.🗣️ Nothing else will do🙏🏽❣️🙏🏽
