SOAKING PRAYER

Acts 1:12-14 – Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

The move of the Spirit in your life can lead you to a new understanding of spiritual realities. One of the things the Lord taught me about during an unusual season of outpouring a number of years ago was what I like to call soaking prayer. The Bible often uses the term baptism when referring to the affect of the Holy Spirit on our lives. The word baptism means to immerse. In the greek world baptizo was used to describe soaking in a substance and taking on the characteristics of that substance. Cucumbers becoming pickles or dying fabrics to change their color reflect this truth. In today’s passage Luke described the disciples waiting on the Holy Spirit as waiting in one accord. Here is the definition of that word from Strong’s Dictionary which just may change your view of prayer.

“One accord –
with one mind, with one accord, with one passion – A unique Greek word, used 10 of its 12 New Testament occurrences in the Book of Acts, helps us understand the uniqueness of the Christian community. Homothumadon is a compound of two words meaning to “rush along” and “in unison”. The image is almost musical; a number of notes are sounded which, while different, harmonize in pitch and tone. As the instruments of a great concert under the direction of a concert master, so the Holy Spirit blends together the lives of members of Christ’s church.”

So what if prayer is more of a receiving thing than even an asking thing? What if this is the key to being truly Spirit filled and carrying God’s power that changes our world? Praying in harmony with others becomes a harmonious spiritual experience where we come in tune with what the Lord is doing in His church. The Day of Pentecost was the beginning of a brand new age in our world. Maybe its time for all of us to return to the Upper Room and soak in the power of God’s presence.

  1. One accord, unison, or how about the bride of Christ. Coming together is the master plan and who can dispute that? Or how can a part of the body say I have no need of another part, are they greater than the Creator?May we leave the foolishness of man’s judgements and misguided controls and allow the Spirit the freedom to accomplish the will of the Father, He is able.

  2. And when the Wind blows..so do we 🥰 some of us are on the ‘highs’ and some are on the ‘lows,’ but when together we create a beautiful symphony! 🎶🎵🎼
