MARTIN’S ANGELS
Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
Genesis 32:1
I have always loved music. My mom used to listen to country music and my dad actually had some gospel hymns he used to listen to. Of course I moved on to secular rock in my darker years before I came to Christ. When I was born again, my love for music intensified, I now had something to sing about. The frustrating thing for me was that I never had a knack for playing music. The musical notes from various instruments seemed like a foreign language or maybe a secret code that I just could not break. In the same way, the ways of The Lord are hard to understand for the natural man. Martin Luther says there is something in this we can learn from the angels. Check this out.
“Angels are spirits who serve all of creation. Christ says that the “angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven”. The angels have a good understanding of how the world works. They know that there’s a correlation between the fortunate circumstances of wicked people and the adverse conditions of faithful believers. While we Christians are still on earth, we cannot fully understand this or see how it can be true. At the end of the world, after this life, we will understand how all of this fits together. People who are unfamiliar with the principles of musical harmony have trouble appreciating how the various sounds produced by an organ or harp can result in such beautiful music. In this life, we hear the sounds, not the symphony. It appears to us that God is asleep and the devil is wide-awake and ruling everything. Human reason concludes that neither God nor people are in control of the world, but that everything on earth happens by chance. Human wisdom can’t comprehend the infinite, heavenly truth that God is in charge and allows many more things in this world to succeed than fail. God’s kindness is more widespread than the devil’s cruelty. But human reason makes us uncertain because we experience so much disorder and injustice. We feel uncertain because we don’t see by the same light the angels do. We can’t understand how right and wrong, life and death, light and darkness all harmonize.”
Maybe your life seems like discordant sounds from time to time. That’s only because our ears may not be tuned to the song of The Lord. For the Christian, their life is a beautiful song being played by The Lord. Every “note” of your life is perfect, it is in perfect harmony with the song of The Lord. If you find yourself in the midst of tough times and nothing seems to be going right, know this. Our God is causing all things to work together for good for those who love Him and are called by Him for His purposes. His song is perfect, listen closely, maybe you will hear angels singing the songs of heaven.
