UPHOLDING ALL THINGS

UPHOLDING ALL THINGS

Heb. 1:1-3 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

One of the amazing mysteries of Christ is His sovereign authority and power over all of creation. Jesus, the only begotten Son of the Father, entered into creation as a man. Today, He is seated at the right hand of the Father ruling all things by His powerful words. He literally has the whole universe in His hand. He has our lives, every part of our lives, in His hand. He sustains us or holds the pieces of our lives together. Not only is He involved with the big stuff, like raising up and bringing down leaders and nations. He also has the small stuff on His radar. He actually is intimately involved with the little details of my life. He is involved in my daily provision, my health, my protection: actually there is not anything He is not upholding in our lives. Here is how Andrew Murray sees it.

“The great object and aim of God in creation was to have an inheritance for His Son, in which He might show forth His glory and find His blessedness. The Son is the Final Cause, The End of all things. He is the Beginning too. Through whom He also made the worlds. He is the origin and Efficient Cause of all that exists. “Without Him nothing was made that was made.” The place the Son had in the divine Being was such that God’s relation to all that was outside of Himself was only through the Son. Of all that exists the end and the beginning meet in Him.
And He is the Middle, too. Upholding all things by the word of His power. He bears all things, “all things consist in Him”. As little as they were created without Him, can they exist without Him? He upholds them every moment by the word of His power, even as by His word they were created. This is the Son through whom God speaks to us.”

One of the vehicles The Lord uses to sustain our lives is prayer. If you don’t really know what to pray our even how to pray over your circumstances that’s okay. He will even do the praying for you. Part of what He is doing at the Father’s right hand is intercession, He is interceding for you. This is how He holds our lives together, not only does He pray for us He also anoints us with His Spirit to pray the right kinds of prayers. What is the result? He causes all things to work together for my good.

  1. A big amen! He upholds all things by the power of His Word. I often wondered why things do not simply implode; it is a natural state of events for opposites to cancel each other out. The very fabric of our beings are positive protons surrounded by negative electrons and a neutral state is only a microscopic distance away. Well anyway, He keeps us, and has done so in ways we cannot even began to imagine.
Prayer is our direct channel to the greatest of all Beings; He is personal with His children; He is loving and actively involved in their lives.
