ETERNAL WORSHIP

Ps.145:1 – I will exalt You, my God, the King,
And I will bless Your name forever and ever.

David is the only person the Lord ever said was “a man after my own heart”. Have you ever wondered what that even meant ? Of course there were many great prophets throughout the course of time but there was apparently something quite different about David that demanded such a comment. We all know David’s story and we know David was far from perfect but I believe it was David’s worship that caught the Lord’s attention. There was something different about David’s worship and David’s songs. We can catch a taste of it in the opening verse of Psalm 145. Here it is, “I will bless your name forever and ever”. That is the difference, eternal worship is what marked David’s life. In the anointing on David’s life he had tasted the eternal, the very beauty of God is what grabbed David. His heart had been captured by God’s heart of love. Matthew Henry made three interesting observations about this verse. Here they are with some of my comments.

I will bless thee for ever and ever, and again, Ps 145:2. This intimates,

That he resolved to continue in this work to the end of his life, throughout his “for ever” in this world.

David had obviously been deeply effected by God’s love being poured out on him. David’s response was that he would worship the Lord everyday for the rest of his life. This continual worship is what marks God’s people.

  1. That the psalms he penned should be made use of in praising God by the church to the end of time. 2 Ch 29:30.

3000 years have come and gone since David wrote his Psalms. How many people have been strengthened by his words in these 3000 years? Just last week at the end of service a sister in our church spoke out Psalm 23 from her heart as word to our church. It was precious, it was encouraging, and it was filled with the the life of God. These Psalms are eternal because they are the very words of God.

  1. That he hoped to be praising God to all eternity in the other world: they that make it their constant work on earth, shall have it their everlasting bliss in heaven.

David had tasted incredible joy while worshipping in the presence of the Lord. He obviously understood what this was all about, heaven is real and David was tasting eternity as he worshipped. This is what worship is, the beginning of our eternal joy in heaven.

1 thought on “ETERNAL WORSHIP”

  1. David declared his wonder, anazement, and love for the King of the Universe in saying he would exalt and praise God forever and ever. And the praise God on! As it is written, “You shall declare a thing, and it shall be established. ”

Thank you for these encouraging insights and thoughts. These nuggets are more precious than gold.
