Ps.145:115 – The eyes of all look to You,
And You give them their food in due time.
My wife Parris and I often walk early in the morning along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. Sometimes our path crosses a lady who feeds the cats that live along the lake. Recently as this lady approached we saw the cats gathering to get their food from her, these creatures are looking to their friend in daily expectancy. This is really a picture of us, sort of like abandoned cats forging for our meals everyday, not knowing if we would find success for that particular day. At least that was the way it was before Jesus came into our lives. Now we are daily waiting in expectation for the Lord, surely He is more faithful than the Pontchartrain cat lady. Here is how Spurgeon describes today’s verse.
“They have learned to look to thee: it has become their nature to turn to thee for all they want. As children look to a father for all they need, so do the creatures look to God, the all sufficient Provider. It were well if all men had the eye of faith, and if all waited therewith upon the Lord. And thou givest them their meat in due season. They wait, and God gives. The thought of this brings God so near to our poet prophet that he is again speaking with God after the style of thee and thou. Is it to be wondered at when the Lord is feeding the hungry all around us,—giving food to all creatures, and to ourselves among them? Like a flock of sheep the creatures stand around the Lord as their great Shepherd; all eyes are to his hand expecting to receive their food; nor are they disappointed, for when the hour comes suitable provender is ready for each creature.”
There are some other participants in these daily feedings on the lakefront, its those blasted crows. They also see the Cat Lady approaching and gather around trying to steal some food. These crows are a picture of the enemy and his fallen imps. They can’t get the food as long as the cats stay steady, all they can do is squawk and fuss and make threats they can’t keep. The Lord comes to us daily with our daily provision, we trust in Him and feed from His hand. As far as the devils go, they just make a lot of noise. Hold your ground and sing the Lords praises and you will be cared for by the Good Shepherd.
