SO LITTLE WENT SO FAR

John 6:8-10 – TPT – But just then, Andrew, Peter’s brother, spoke up and said, Look! Here’s a young person with five barley loaves and two small fish . . . but how far would that go with this huge crowd?” “Have everyone sit down,” Jesus said to his disciples. So on the vast grassy slope, more than five thousand hungry people sat down.

This is a struggle all of us have, we are stuck looking at the impossibility of our circumstances rather than setting our gaze upon Jesus. There Jesus was standing right in front of them and all they could see was their lack. At that moment all of the miracles of the past seemed like a distant memory. They had seen water turned into wine, paralytics dancing for joy, blind folks with eyes wide open; they had also seen lepers with rotting, oozing sores on their body suddenly with brand new skin like the skin of a young child. With all of that in their memory banks all they could see was a little boy’s lunch and a huge crowd of hungry people, the circumstances had stolen their gaze. Jesus was nowhere in their sight. At least they managed to bring the meager lunch and give it to Jesus, something amazing was about to happen. Here is how the Believer’s Bible Commentary describes this scene.

“They lived in the vicinity of Bethsaida, along the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Andrew also decided that it would be difficult to feed such a throng. He noticed a little boy with five barley loaves and two small fish, but he felt that these would be almost useless in attempting to satisfy the hunger of so many. This lad did not have very much, but he was willing to put it at the disposal of the Lord Jesus. As a result of his kindness, this story was recorded in each of the four Gospels. He did not do very much, but “little is much if God is in it,” and he has become famous throughout the world.”

So maybe today you are facing a ginormous situation with very little resources to attack your problem. It doesn’t take much, a little boy’s lunch is plenty, get your eyes on Jesus and put whatever you have in His hand. How far can this little lunch go with such a giant need? It can go as far as the goodness and power of God can reach, infinite is the only limitation.
