Rom.2:16 ….in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
Can you imagine if every thought that passed through your head popped out of your mouth? Every kind of foolishness flows through our minds, especially before any renewal happens in our lives. I remember some of the mind games I dealt with as a new Christian. As a matter of fact for several months it seemed like my mind was a battle field of depravity where regretfully I was losing most of the battles. What kind of thoughts am I talking about? Everything from thoughts of failure to thoughts of grandeur, everything from temptations to going back to my old habits to dealing with immoral thoughts that I didn’t even deal with as a non-Christian. It was bad enough to even have these thoughts, imagine if they were open game for everyone else to observe. Thankfully that was a long time ago and I have learned to win the battle in my head with the Word of God and the renewal of the Holy Spirit. But there is a day coming when all of our secrets will be exposed and judged by the Lord. Thankfully I am now hidden away in Christ and He has carried all of my shame into oblivion. Here is how Matthew Henry describes this verse.
“The light of the Gospel, and it is according to this that those who enjoyed the Gospel will be judged (v. 16): According to my Gospel. They will be judged by the Gospel in general, but here Paul calls it his because he preaches it. Some refer the words according to my Gospel to what he says about the Day of Judgment. It is good for us to come to know what is revealed about that day. A day is set for a general judgment. The judgment of that day will be put into the hands of Jesus Christ. Nothing speaks more terror to sinners or more comfort to saints than that Christ will be the Judge. People’s secrets will then be judged. That will be the great day of revelation.”
I am so glad that all of that foolishness that flooded my heart has been washed away by the blood of Jesus. All of those secrets of darkness in my past have been destroyed. The question that needs to be answered is what about you? Are you ready for that great day when your secrets will be exposed before the Lord. On second thought they already are, you just might not be aware that there are no secrets with Him.
