Luke 19:42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

This verse is a glimpse into the personal love that Jesus has for His own. The jews were the chosen people, these were God’s chosen vessels and they were clueless. God Himself was walking among them and He was rejected by His own people. The rejection started at His first sermon in His hometown of Nazareth, He was not only rejected, He barely escaped with His life. Then there was the Pharisees and Sadducees who also rejected His message. Finally, the multitudes turned against Him when He began to talk about a crucifixion rather than an insurrection. Now He had come to the end. He had healed the sick, fed the multitudes, casted out demons, walked on water and even raised the dead; the people still didn’t get it. They did not know who He was. They had missed their visitation. That moment, which could have been so great for them, actually became the very grounds of their judgement. That’s how it will be with all of us, what did we do with our visitation? Here is an interesting quote from the Interpreter”s Bible.

“In truest sense every day is just such a day of visitation and testing. Every moment is a moment of crisis, of judgement or consolation, a moment for turning. The hour strikes and the soul stands before God. Even thou, at least in this thy day: the only bit of time that is thine, this fleeting shadow on the dial, where past and future meet; thine—and God’s! Over here, the depth and reality of that communion with Him who is the source of all life, whose service is itself the perfect peace which garrisons the inner keep and citadel of the mind: over there, eyes that have so long refused to see that they cannot; ears so long attuned to the world that no sound now comes from beyond it.”

Recently, our nation was shocked again by the gruesome tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Similar crises have become far too common in the last several years. No one knows what your future holds; no one knows what today holds, life is precious and life is fragile. That was the point Jesus was making, they had missed their visitation, the end of Jerusalem is at hand. It is far too easy and far too common to continue our daily routine acting as if our life will continue like it is indefinitely, that is just not the case. The Lord is visiting His people today in the person of the Holy Spirit. His presence is being poured out again and again as the final day draws near. How about you? Have you recognized your time of visitation? The Lord has come near, the end of life as we know it draws close, are you aware of the season that you live in? Thankfully we still have today, another day of visitation, how will you respond?

  1. The people of God clueless- say it isn’t so- LOL!
It seems especially easy to have those “clueless times” though, perhaps that is why the Spirit repeats the following phrase seven times in the Book of Revelations – He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches
To be sure He is always speaking, and we must be sure to keep our head on the Master’s chest listening to His heartbeat, and responsive to each move He makes.
