ALLOS PARACLETOS

John 14:15-17 Amp. If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever— The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you.

This a classic verse from the Amplified Bible. This translation brings out the different shades of meaning in the powerful Bible word paracletos. The Amplified Bible uses seven different words to help define and describe this beautiful word that gives us a glimpse into the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
The first word that is used is the classic word, Comforter, that is used in the King James Bible. This has always been a beloved title and description of the precious Holy Spirit. He is the Comforter and comforts us in the midst of our troubles. There is nothing quite like the love of God coming upon us in our difficult days. He truly comforts us with supernatural comfort to sustain us in our darkest of times. Secondly, He is called Counsellor. The Spirit of God does give us wisdom and counsel when we have no idea how to proceed. Not only does He give us the information we need, He is truly a counsellor. His words are filled with therapy. Often, thousands of dollars are spent for professional counsel which can often bring great benefit. The counsel of the Holy Spirit is even greater than the counsel of a trained professional. His counsel is filled with supernatural life that brings healing to our soul. He is also called Helper. This is one of my favorite descriptions of the precious Holy Spirit. He helps us in all of our weaknesses. His help is so personal and so powerful because He works on the inside of us. Paul said that He helps us through groanings and sighs as we yield to the Spirit in prayer. What kind of help do you need today? Yield to the Spirit as you pray, suddenly He will join together with you to help you overcome all of your challenges. He is our Helper, always present, always ready to help us.
