Mk.5:34 – And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

The woman with the discharge of blood is one of the great miracles of Jesus in the Bible. It is probably the greatest display of how the anointing is transferred and received. She heard about Jesus, she pressed through the crowd, she expected a miracle, and she touched His garment. This is a great picture of the anointing and how it effects our whole being. The last verse in this story recently caught my attention. Jesus said, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” There are three words that stand out to me in this statement; well, peace, and healed. Let’s have a brief look at each one and check WUEST Word Book for commentary.

The first word is well. It is the Greek sozo and often is translated as saved or whole. Here is how Wuest describes sozo.

“The verb is sōzō, “to save,” and is used at times for the healing of the body as well as that of the soul. It is in the perfect tense, assuring her of a permanent cure.”

The next word is eirine or our word peace. This peace involves our whole being, she was entering in to a life of peace. Here is Wuest on peace.

“Go into peace,” contemplating the new door just opened to her, the peace in store for her. Robertson suggests that peace here may have more the idea of the Hebrew word shalom, which speaks of health of body and soul.”

The final word is healed which is the Greek word hugiēs. This word is speaking of health as a way of life. Here is Wuest on this word.

“Be continually whole.” The latter word is the translation of hugiēs, “to be sound of body,” and from which we get our word “hygienic.”

I love this phrase that Jesus spoke to this woman. He was telling her that her twelve years of physical and emotional trauma was over. She could now enter into peace and walk in wholeness. Maybe you are suffering physical or emotional pain today. Follow the faith of this woman and press through all of your obstacles. Reach out and touch Jesus. You too can be made whole and enter into a life of peace.
